Meeting the fabulous ladies of Team Serenity

20th June 2025

What a joy to be guest speaker at this year’s Team Serenity Ladies Lunch, raising money for The Kirkwood - the wonderful hospice for Kirklees: https://www.thekirkwood.org.uk/

Team Serenity, led by fab Helen Woodhead, were winners of the fundraiser category at last year’s BBC Radio Leeds ‘Make A Difference’ awards. These are a chance to say thank you, to recognise and celebrate those who - like the inspiring and generous Team Serenity ladies - improve lives in their local community: https://www.facebook.com/share/1CDr6Aod1L/?mibextid=wwXIfr

I talked about my 30 plus years broadcasting to West Yorkshire, my first foray into radio as a 17 year old and my freelance career now.

Ripple, my late Mum’s soft toy donkey, accompanied me as I talked about dementia too. It was touching to be thanked by several of the women for ‘Mum and Me: the Dementia Diary’: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p082m6hx

I was made wonderfully welcome. Thank you and congratulations on raising another nearly three thousand pounds in a single afternoon! 315 Bar and Restaurant in Lepton were excellent hosts 🥂
