Celebrating Yorkshire Day
1st August 2025
Delighted to celebrate Yorkshire Day bright and early with the fab Rima Ahmed on BBC Radio Leeds 📻
If you were up between 6 and 6.30am on 1st August I was back by popular West Yorkshire demand, or so I was told. I reckon it was just because I’d kept my trusty alarm clock!! ⏰
I was there at the invitation of lovely listeners as page 1 of ‘The Yorkshire Pages’ (think Yellow Pages only White Rose coloured!) As a proud Yorkshireman, who spent three decades as a presenter at the radio station, it was rather moving 🥲
On 1st August 1995 guess what our main theme was on the breakfast show - same time and same date (fewer grey hairs)? I’d written it in my diary (a Tuesday, since you ask). A decade in was the year that Yorkshire Day went big and county wide - having been started in 1985. I was in my first year (of fifteen) as permanent host of the BBC Radio Leeds breakfast show. ⏰
Here’s to the White Rose 🥂
If you’d like me to talk about my 34 years as a radio journalist, producer and presenter with the BBC, I’d love to hear from you. Equally I’m happy to talk about how proud I am to be a Yorkshireman, born and bred! https://www.theandrewedwards.com/contact
