Suited and booted for award-winning architecture

8th May 2025

I was delighted to be invited to host the RIBA Yorkshire Awards 2025. We were at the wonderful Howard Assembly Room in Leeds city centre - itself an architectural prize winner. There were seven varied, exciting and inspiring shortlisted projects from across North, South, East and West Yorkshire - with me suited and booted ready to host the evening and keep the timings on track.

This was the subject of some humour, as each project had only 10 minutes in which to make its presentation. As I pointed out, architects are often chatty folk! If everyone had two minutes extra, we’d have been a further quarter from hour from the prizes - and thirst-quenching - after-show drinks!. It prompted the event photographer, the excellent Duncan Lomax (whose photograph of me you see here) to write:

“When your time's up, your time's up. Always a pleasure to work with Andrew Edwards who was hosting last night's awards. A strict 10 minute slot for talks, and he was on hand to usher off the over-runners. 😂

I love my work with architects. My late Dad spent his career in the building industry and I studied the history of art at university. Art, archeticture and the built environment have always fascinated me.

Do get in touch if you think I might be able to work with you in any way, whether it’s hosting a live event where strict timekeeing is needed, a seat-of-the-pants radio show, role playing, talking about broadcasting and journalism, media training, sharing my experiences with my Mum and dementia, recording a voiceover or something else entirely: https://www.theandrewedwards.com/contact
