Time to confess about my week in court

2nd May 2025

Time to confess: I’ve spent the week in court (but was released in time for the weekend) ⚖️.

Don’t worry, I haven’t strayed too far off the straight and narrow: I’ve been ‘acting’ for only the second time since I was a teenager. A theme is emerging (last time I was a detective for Carl Hartley and colleagues University of Leeds) but this time I was on the other side of the legal fence …

The trainee barristers I sat opposite in conference (at the Leeds campus of The University of Law) had the courtesy not to laugh at the notion they were representing a 20 year old. Spoiler alert: I’m a tad older than that!

This has been a fascinating glimpse into a different area of teaching from my work at the University of Leeds, the University of (Central) Lancashire and Leeds Trinity University.

Thanks to the wonderful Emma Downing, barrister at Broadway House Chambers and senior lecturer at The University of Law in Leeds, for looking after me brilliantly as I made my debut as a role play performer.

Do get in touch if you think I might be able to work with you in any way, whether it’s role playing, bad acting, presenting a radio programme, talking about broadcasting and journalism, media training, hosting an event, sharing my experiences with my Mum and dementia, recording a voiceover or something else entirely: https://www.theandrewedwards.com/contact
